The Uncommon Cooking of Sonoma Chef John McReynolds

By Jonah Raskin Blog No Comments

As good as Sonoma restaurants can be, it’s probably fair to say that if you want the very best food and wine in this part of the world you won’t find it at any restaurant, at least not during normal business hours, though “best” is certainly subjective. The best tacos…

Food in a Foodies Paradise: A Tale of Taste in the Valley of the Moon

By Jonah Raskin Blog No Comments

When a popular restaurant closes, albeit briefly, it seems to cause consternation whether in small villages such as Glen Ellen or big towns such as San Francisco. This winter when the small (just 42 seats)  the fig café closed its doors for renovations, foodies in and around Glen Ellen in rural…

Long time Russian River board member and leader Paula Downing is fondly remembered by so many in our community. From her ongoing work with our Community Apple Press and championing the Heritage Turkey Project, Paula was an indefatigable friend to furthering school gardens and Sonoma County farmers, fisherfolk, and foodmakers whom live our good, clean, and fair values.

Long time Long time Rus board member and leader Paula Downing is fondly remembered by so many in our community. From her ongoing work with our Community Apple Press and championing the Heritage Turkey Project, Paula was an indefatigable friend to furthering school gardens and Sonoma County farmers, fisherfolk, and foodmakers whom live our good, clean, and fair values.

Paula, you will be missed. 🐌❤️🍏🦃We at Farm Trails mourn the passing of Paula Downing early last week. Paula was an indefatigable champion of local farms and farmers since the 1990s. She formerly served on the Farm Trails Board of Directors, on the leadership council at Slow Food Russian River, and as longtime manager of the Sebastopol Farmers' Market. We had expected to spend Saturday with Paula at the Gravenstein Apple Fair, where she was slated to be a panelist on the Life on the Farm stage. Instead, we paid tribute to her during the panel, and hope you were able to join us in that collective memorial.

To read more about Paula and her indelible impact on the ag community, and particularly her advocacy for farmers' economic viability, read Michele Anna Jordan's reflections on her friend: www.pressdemocrat.com/article/lifestyle/remembering-paula-downing-a-force-for-farmers-markets/
