Our three big outreach events to promote local apples will be August 2nd at the Sebastopol Farmers Market, August 8th and 9th at the Annual Gravenstein Festival in Sebastopol, and August 15th through October 30th running the Free

The SFRR Apple Press at the Sebastopol Farmers Market

A SFRR Apple Press at the Sebastopol Farmers Market

Community Apple Press at Luther Burbank Gold Ridge Experiment Farm, also in Sebastopol.

At the Farmers Market and the Gravenstein Fair we set up an information booth and bring an apple press and press fresh Gravenstein apple juice.  We encourage children to participate.  It’s amazing to see a child realize that real apples make apple juice!  We also serve thousands of free samples.

This is a signature project of Slow Food Russian River for over 14 years.  Our efforts have increased demand for local apples and help farmers make a fair living growing them.   We help people all over the Bay Area connect with local orchards and recognize the value of biodiversity and eating seasonally.

We need your help!

We are looking for more people such as us who can volunteer with Slow Food Russian River and support our local apple culture at one or more of the events – washing apples, serving juice, and spreading the word.

We also need volunteers to help at the Free Community Apple Press weekends into October, when folks bring their backyard apples, or the ones they bought from local farmers, or the ones they picked at local U’Pick sites, to our press and make their own juice.

Please contact us as soon as you can at info@slowfoodrr.org with the dates you can help.  We will get back to you about time and place.
