Slow Fish 2021 has started today! We welcome you to join us in the conversation of strength, resilience, and challenges to Good, Clean, and Fair seafood and how you can be a part of the delicious revolution. 🐌 🎣 🦀Slow Fish begins next Thursday, and we are honored for Buck Jones from the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission to start us off with a keynote addressing the importance of preserving and strengthening our connections to our waterways and their fish. He will join us again on Saturday for a Deep Dive on Indigenous & Subsistence Access to Food Sources.
Register here listen to him, and other seafood experts speaking over the next two weekends: slowfoodusa.org/slow-fish/slow-fish-2021/
Tribes of the Columbia River region have been fishing since time immemorial, and even before Buck was born, his people have been battling for their right to fish, a fight that continues today. Buck’s work with CRITFC is to help tribal fishers market their traditional harvest. “Since the first treaties were signed, it’s been a battle to get [the U.S Federal Government] to uphold its promises,” says Buck. CRITFC works to protect the Columbia River from further damage and ensure their fishing rights, as the river is home chinook, coho and sockeye salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, and Pacific lamprey, which have all suffered from modern development in the region.
