Steele Lane Elementary School Garden is looking for a Coordinator

Part Time: Two days per week, approximately 8:00 am – 3:00 pm

Steele Lane School Enrichment Foundation (SLSEF) is now accepting applications for Garden Coordinator. This is a contract position for the Steele Lane School Enrichment Foundation at Steele Lane School, offering critical support to ensure that Steele Lane School can maximize the educational potential of the garden.

Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Facilitating sessions of garden-based education classes;
  • Managing the school garden, plan and prepare for garden work activities, managing 
planting schedule, ensure availability of tools and other necessary materials;
  • Facilitating monthly Garden Steering Committee meetings;
  • Coordinating community garden events to bring students, families, teachers and
  • community members together;
  • Coordinating school-wide garden events, facilitating opportunities in which students 
prepare and serve garden-grown vegetables;
  • Pest Control: monitoring, reporting and treating for pest problems including weeds, 
insects and animal pests;
  • Supplies: securing seeds, plants, wood chips, dumpsters, etc. for the garden season;
  • Watering: regulating water usage, keep garden well watered;
  • Garden Maintenance: caring and maintaining of common areas, pathways, borders, 
common gardens. 
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of facilitation or teaching experience with youth aged 5-12;
  • Knowledge and skills in small-scale organic food production or home gardening;
  • Knowledge of or interest in topics including urban gardening, botany, environmental 
science, health and nutrition, food systems, food access;
  • Ability to work with diverse populations including youth and adults;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking skills;
  • Ability to work independently and be flexible;
  • Computer skills and project management skills. 
Employment Standards/Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • AA or BA desirable
  • Negative TB test
  • Pass fingerprinting background check 
Compensation: $8,500 for the contract year
